Lewa House is a family-run safari lodge located in the heart of Kenya’s Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its conservation efforts and diverse wildlife. Positioned atop a hill, the lodge offers panoramic views of Mount Kenya to the south and the Mathews Range and Mount Ol Olokwe to the north. The accommodation at Lewa House comprises three traditional thatched family cottages and four innovative earthpods. The family cottages, constructed with rough stone walls and thatched roofs, feature two en-suite bedrooms and a shared veranda, making them ideal for families. The earthpods, designed to blend seamlessly into the landscape, are eco-friendly structures that maintain a comfortable temperature naturally and offer en-suite facilities with walk-in showers and, in some cases, outdoor bathtubs.
The main house serves as the communal hub, featuring a spacious lounge with an open fireplace and a large family dining table where guests can enjoy hosted meals. A shaded veranda extends from the main house, providing a comfortable seating area to relax and soak in the surroundings. The lodge also boasts a free-form swimming pool overlooking a waterhole, offering guests the chance to observe wildlife while taking a refreshing dip. Lewa House offers a range of activities to immerse guests in the natural beauty and culture of the region. These include day and night game drives, guided bush walks, horse and camel safaris, and cultural visits to local communities. Guests can also engage in conservation activities, such as visiting the anti-poaching tracker dogs and local schools supported by the conservancy.
Emphasizing sustainability and community involvement, Lewa House operates with eco-friendly practices and reinvests tourism income into conservation and local community projects. The lodge’s commitment to preserving the environment and supporting the surrounding communities ensures that guests have an authentic and responsible safari experience. With its intimate atmosphere, stunning location, and dedication to conservation, Lewa House provides a unique and enriching safari experience in one of Kenya’s most celebrated wildlife conservancies.
